in that price range i would go for the Outlaw receiver and the 5 channel separate amp they offer... both have a gerat reputation and would be about 1600 bucks for both.... which leaves you with a 600 dollar sub.... In that price range i have gone through several SUBS... my current one is the Boston Acoustics PV800, although i also have the PV1000 which could be had for about 1K.... don't think you could get a SunFire or BagEnd at your price range..
Could not comment on the Video side, since i use a 36" direct view TV in my smaller room.
