SW question

I'm planning to build a HT SW system using 16 12" subwoofers (which I already have) driven by either one or two Crown K2s. I'd like to put these speakers in endtable type cabinets (the woofers would be vertically mounted, but shrouded by panels, so the output would be at the floor), and was wondering if there were any significant problems with having 4 cabinets with four drivers each as opposed to two with 8 drivers each.
I'm a bit concerned that with only two, they'd be a bit on the largish side and quite heavy (I'm thinking 3' x 3' by 2' high) and with four (2' cube) I could have two on the same wall as my RP tv and two on either side of the sofa.
Opinions? TIA.
