Progressive Scan - Any Benefit For Non-Prog XBR?

152.163.204.69

Having just purchased a Sony 700P DVD player to mate with a 2000 model 36 XBR, I have a slanted, distorted picture from DVDs in progressive scan mode. I was assured by the wizards at Circum-Shitty that my model XBR (also purchased there) could take advantage of the progressive scan technology since it was digital capable. Apparantly it can't. My TV manual makes no mention of progressive scan.

Is there any benefit to progressive scan players running into non-progressive monitors? I'm aware that I can switch the player into so-called interlace mode, but why have prog scan if I can't use it? I also considered a VVEGA design 570 DVD player but was advised that the progressive 700P would be the better choice.

Any thoughts or advice?
