Curse the Pioneer HLD-X9 laserdisc player!

203.21.247.47

Why?

Because it is so damned good it makes old technology LDs look better than most hi tech (???) DVDs via our Toshiba SD-K310. The HLD-X9 is giving some stunning NTSC pics projected on our 112 inch Stewart screen via the 808S Barco projector - every bit as good as the best digital PAL signals from satellite.

By contrast most DVDs, even those supposedly enhanced, look relatively fuzzy. Sure, the software quality is variable, but the same sort of OK but not brilliant picture was what was being seen from LDs via the Theta Data III before the HLD-X9 so the hardware IS also very important - note the rocket science observation here!

So, deep groan, the Toshiba will have to go. Curse this obsession with quality. Why cannot I be like many people, satisfied to look at a 20 inch screen displaying multiple ghosting with squarking muffled sound through a 2 inch speaker?
