Test platform was all players stacked with easy accessable Component cables for quick A/B comparisons

I will start out with T.V.
First I disabled SVM Then I calibrated it using the AVIA disc.

I started with the 9000es.This player produced a sharp picture.I looked into the seen in Toy Story chapter 4 when Woody is talking into the Mic and tried my hardest to find the Chroma Bug.Sorry folks I cannot see it.I looked extensively through making of documentary's once again no visible coming. The color's are outstanding.

I then put in the Denon. It has a excellent three dimentional look to it. I was able to track down the chroma error but again not to the poitn of disliking the player. The colors were not as sharp. It definetly has a softer picture while to some it may seem more film like I did not like it.

I then tried the RP91k.The real downfall in my opinion was the fine detail. The color's seemed to wash together a little so especially in skin tones there wasn't the definition I was used to.Maybe it was my fault for not playing with the tweaks enough but I wasn't satisfied.

Then came the 9200.Probably my least favorite of all.I had condsidered it for its DVD-A alone but with MSACD it would be a pain to swap cables constantly. The picture was grainy. It was sharp but in doing so left a washed out grainy look to it. Definelty not my cup of tea.

Last but not least I tried to Q50.That was a pleasant surprise.Very rich colors. No Chroma Bug at all.Funky remote. But what surprised me was I used the Pearl Jam disc because it has to be the worst recorded DVD I have ever seen video wise.It is grainy and flat out bad.I hoped that with the DCDi the Philips would excel but it was no different than the Sony.

Conclusion

I have decide to stay with the 9000es.As you can see there was only a 300 dollar difference from most exspensive to least exspensive so Price was not of major concern. As far as features the Rp91 and the 9200 won with DVD-A,HDCD etc.The Sony was 2nd followed by the Denon then the Philips.Warranty wise the 9000es wins hands down.Picture wise with all the Major Hollywood tittle's I used the combing, and Video to Film mode was not a problem so though Hometheaterhifi.com may have failed alot of players the tests they use to me are insignificant.I.E. Making of documenarys,Trailors etc. If you all have seen the new superbit DVD's do not have these things and to me that is the way it should be.When playing Toy Story the Difference form best to worst was small.I did not see any difference between the 9000es at the Q50. On the other movies the Denon and the 9000es and the Q50 produced the best skin tones with 9000 and the q50 producing the cleanest resolution.
