Could be capacitance or resistance of the cable you are using. You might check the specs of the Monster cable you like and find one with similar specs. I have the Tributaries Delta and it's really amazing, so I'm not sure what's going on with your system. There is also a chance that your Monster cable is not letting all the signal get through..... Cables really do act like components, and sometimes require you to change settings on your tv/vcr/etc. Personally, the SVHS input on my stupid tv really messes up the signal: bad color, mushy darks, etc. I use the Tributaries on the composite input and voila! A beautiful picture.
