Newbie Help on Need for Scalers/Doublers

I have been an audiophile for 25 yrs, but am relatively new to videophiledom. I have several questions. My current video system is a Pioneer Elite HDTV, purchased 6 months ago, along with their progressive scan DVD player, Purist Audio video interconnects, Dish TV, and power condition with a PS Audio. My questions are are there signficantly better line doublers out there than the one native to the Elite? If so, which are they and are they worth the investment? Second, would scalers be a worthwhile investment for RPTV? If so, which ones? Any other tips or suggestions?
