MiniDV to HDTV - tech question!

My Panasonic PVDV401 MiniDV (digital) camcorder sports an S-Video spigot and an "iLink" IEEE1394 "Firewire" port.

I know the firewire port carries a digital signal but HDTVs in my price range do not usually have a firewire port, so I am wondering what can I expect out of the S-Video port? Is it going to sync up with the HDTV in 480i or 1080i or something else?
