Need help/advice on calibrating gray-scale

Hi,

I have a direct-view unit that I have access to the service menu on. In it, I see that I am able to control the "cutoff" and "drive" setting for the Red, Green, and Blue colors independently. Could someone please enlightenme on what "cutoff" and "drive" adjustments do, in context of setting the proper gray-scale adjustments?
