Widescreen TV for $2000-3000?

I'm looking for a widescreen (16:9) TV in the neighborhood of $2000-3000. I prefer Direct-view, but I would also consider other types. NO rear or front projection, though. One of the constrictions is that I want it to be no wider than 32", and no deeper than 22" (maybe a little deeper would be ok). I would also like it to be flat on top so that I can set my center speaker on it. I've been looking for a TV with this description, and I've had little luck. Most of the TV's I can find are too wide (why does a 30" tube need a box that is 35" wide?). The most promising one so far has been the 22" LCD monitor from Panasonic, but I'm not sure how deep it is (could I put a center speaker on it?). Also, I was hoping to get something bigger than 25" if I could.

Any suggestions?
