Reversed stereo channels on TV

I recently moved my audio system to another room, leaving a small sub/sat speaker system driven directly from the TV speaker outputs. Last night I was watching a cable program, in which a man ran through in the background. He ran, yelling, from left to right across the screen, but the sound of his voice went from right to left.
I checked my connections, which are correct. Is it common for broadcast or cable TV shows to reverse the channels, or is my cable carrier backwards? Should I reverse my speaker leads? Or is it possible that the particular show was just poorly recorded?
I'll pay attention from now on, but any advice would be appreciated.
