What does "Cinema Re-EQ" do, exactly?

202.128.19.4

I was wondering exacly what those cinema "Re-EQ" modes found on some receivers (and all THX receivers) do? What frequencies? By how many decibels?

I was noticing that some DVDs I have watched, especially THX releases of "older" films (Jaws, Close Encounters, Jurassic Park) can sound almost unbearably bright on my system. Since my receiver provides considerably flexibility in it's parametric EQ for each channel, I was wondering how to duplicate the Re-EQ feature to see if that would help these DVDs.

Thanks,
BrianB
