The "interference" that some people talk about can be minimized by arranging the speakers in such a way as to minimize the distance between the tweeters of the two speakers. So, if you put them on their side and put the tweeter end towards the junction between the two, then you might be able to work it. The amount of interference, resulting in lobing patterns, would depend on many factors including the distance between the two drivers, the distance between the speakers and the listening position and the frequency of any signal coming out of the speakers. Only experimentation will show.

As for wiring the speakers, if the two speakers are 8 ohms each, then wire them serially, producing a 16 ohm load for the amplifier. That should take care of any amplifier load issues.
