5.1 surround input from cable TV

I am new to HT. I recently got a Integra 7.2 receiver and a Sony NC650V DVD and am in the process of setting them up. After a lot of reading and trial and error, I have pretty much figured out how to connect everything (much more complicated than my 2 channel tube stereo). I have one question, I see that some cable movies and TV shows say they are broadcast in 5.1 surround sound. I am trying to figure how to get the cable audio surround into the receiver. My TV (relatively new JVC (ie it has component "in")) does not have a audio digital "out" (only R & L). If I split the cable coax, can I run one of the cable coax directly into a digital audio coax "in" on the receiver to get the cable 5.1 audio? If not, is there anything else I can do?

Thanks

Bill
