Re: Recording Satellite Dish Program & Watching Regular TV??

David,

Most people hook up their TV antenna to the DSS receiver, but I don’t like the way the system operates like this. Your dilemma is one of the reasons.

Try this:
Hook up the TV antenna lead directly to the VCR (RF/ antenna input). Send the RF/antenna output from the VCR to the TV’s RF/antenna input. Hopefully your RCA satellite has two sets of A/V outputs, like Sony’s does? (If not, this will not work.) Probably one set of A/V connections already goes to your Yamaha receiver. Send the other set of A/V outputs from the satellite receiver to the VCR’s A/V inputs.

To record a broadcast TV show and watch another broadcast TV show: Tune the VCR to the correct channel, and record. On the TV, select desired channel for viewing. If you can send the TV’s audio outputs to the Yamaha receiver, you will have surround sound.
To record a broadcast TV show, and watch a satellite show: Tune the VCR to the correct channel, and record. Select DSS receiver on the Yamaha’s input to watch satellite show (TV set to line or aux input).
To record a satellite show and watch a broadcast TV show: Select line or aux input on the VCR, tune satellite to desired channel, record. On the TV, select desired TV channel for viewing. Again, if you can send the TV’s audio outputs to the Yamaha receiver, you will have surround sound.
