Arlington Rd and DD5.1. Yeap!

209.240.200.136

Ah Yes, this is what we got our Dolby Digital rigs for, to
reproduce 3.1 channels! Thats right, not 5.1 (like it says
on the box of this disturbingly good movie) but 3.1 ch. Last night I threw this dvd on the platter and 15min into
the movie started to wonder if my system might be malfunctioning.Got up walked over to surrounds at outdoor, noisey scenes, absolutely no sounds fro rear channels. By the half-way point I stopped the movie,
did a test tone check (AOK), pulled out Air Force One loaded it went to an action track and there was DD5.1, Whew! system OK for sure. Reloaded Arlington Rd ,checked
player menu, disc menu, OK receiving DD5.1. Still absolutely no rear channel sound throughtout entire movie, wonderful front soundstage and good LFE output,no rear ambience/effects whatsoever. Switch to Pro-logic, beautiful envelopment, mucho ambience. Finally switched to
Circle Surround (WOW!) and watched rest of movie. My point is the recording/mastering/transfer engineers REALLY dropped the ball on this one,or are getting very, very lazy
concerning their work. I know that DD5.1 doesn't usually have
the "ambience" of the pro-logic tracks, but this takes the
cake! We didn't get our DD rigs for 3 channel stereo. Thank goodness I had circle surround which sounds like discrete anyway, even the pro-logic blew away the 5.1 track. Has anyone else watched this dvd yet. Have you noticed this poor DD5.1 mastering?
