I have a Toshiba and am happy with it for DVD and it has had some good reviews. However I do not use it for CD play (use a Theta Data III/DSP IIIa combo) so cannot comment on audio - have not even put a CD on!

Hint: although you might not need it now, purchase a player with component, S-video as well as composite output. Such players tend to be better reproducers of good video. As for audio, my experience is to not expect too much quality from PCM digital, even with outboard processors.
