Need advice on adding surround to existing 2 channel system

I have a good preamp/amp 2 channel system with a subwoofer to which I would like to add a surround decoder for DVDs and TV. I do not need a center amp or speaker, so a decoder with left/right rear amps would be fine.
I need this decoder to be completely removed from the signal path when listening to music. What products are available? Cost is an issue.
