as far as i know, the dvd only has 500 lines of data in it, so there's no way a dvd player could get data where there isn't any. that being said, i think progressive scan dvd players will just double the lines that are there to give the hd standard 1080 lines. i suppose there's potential for that to look better than outputting the regular signal and then doubling it outboard. maybe that's what the dealer was talking about?
