noise/hum from TV

I can't say for certain my hum is from the TV. I haven't bothered to connect and then disconnect the cable from the TV, but either way I am getting a hum when it's connect to my receiver. It's real annoying (Of course) any ideas on how to get rid of it? Is it a ground thing? You can't remove the ground from S-video can you? I have used something to remove noise from wall outlets which I think did something to the ground. (3 prong down to 2 prongs)
