Are you talking about relatively low-sample-rate PCM? Like 44.1 or 48k? If you're getting ringing at low sample rates, it usually means the digital filter in your receiver sucks.

Another consideration is the digital cable you're using. If it's poorly made or poorly designed, or too short/too long, you can get ringing, noticeable mostly at low sample rates.
