New to 5.1 - Have a few questions please

Hi All...
I am currently putting together a 5.1 system and had a few questions. I am looking at some older Rotel equipment. RDA-980 DTS Processor; RTC-970 Pre-Amp; RB-985 Amp. I want to use some Cerin-Vega speakers for the fronts, center, and sub - and some nice Realistic Minimus 7w7 oak speakes as rears. The RB-985 dosent have a seperate output for the sub, so which speakers do I run into the sub (Cerwin-Vega SW-12B) that has inputs for 2 speakers - then outputs to 2 speakers? Do I just run the outputs from the fronts into the sub, then out to the front speakers, and wire the rears directly w/o going into the sub? Im kinda new at 5.1 - and wouldnt mind using some of the older Rotel equip as entry-level, cause I found the package at a decent price.
