High Definition DVDs and Copy Protection

71.96.136.80

Has anyone read the article below that was posted at www.dvdfile.com?

It discusses the copy protection that the MPAA may (is?) promoting to ensure that high definition disks are not pirated.

There is even a suggestion that the new non-standard high definition format "1080p36" is incompatible with almost all current display devices (with exception of frequency-agile CRT-based front projectors).

I'd be interested in what others have heard and read. A format war between blu-ray and HD-DVD is bad enough . . . copy protection that renders old equipment obsolete and increases the cost of the new format at consumer's expense . . . I hope it doesn't kill off the product.

all the best, townsend
