Re: Sony HS51 won't hold settings

Tthe VPLHS51 has mechanical wheels on the side of the unit to adust the horizontal and vertical shifts. The older HS10 and HS20 were elecronic and set with the "side shot" buttons, but this model is mechanical. Are you sure the mounting plate is tight and secure. The slightest movement is going to move the picture out of place. I have adjusted two VPLHS51's for customers recently and one of them needed to use the wheels to compensate for the projector being off center, but I never heard from either customer again. The projector in our demo room was misaligned soon after we installed it, but found it was the fault of a loose mount - human error! The wheels have some play in them so when you dial them one way or the other, move them back and forth a bit to find the center of the position where they need to rest. I just played with ours a bit and after, I tapped it gently on all sides to see if I could misalign it easily, but it stayed in place. Are you referring to the horizontal and vertical size in the setup menu?? I belive those are to correct for differences in computer card resolutions on the DB15 input and not the basic shift and focus. These should be left alone for basic HDMI and component input setups for DVD and HD cable/Sat. If you adjusted them, set them back to the native resolution of 768X 1280. The projector has an automatic mode for computers - APA , the manuel modes shouldn't be used unless you know what you are doing! ( Advanced ) There are many settings you can mess up, like dot phase, so don't.
My guess is a slightly loose mount or an unusual defect.
