Home Theatre for the cheapskate?

Hi there,
I live in a small studio apartment and would like a taste of home theatre, I have a large audio rig (Rogue and Sound Dynamics) but really would like a little surround sound, Ideally I would like the cheapest, but OK quality, receiver and a set of smallish 5.1 speakers. I browsed around at soundcity,com but I am really clueless as to what is good with this type of equipment. Any help or recommendations would be great.
