Technically the framerate should be listed when describing the video output (ie; 1920x1080i60, 1280x720p60, etc), but it's usually left off. Some displays run better at certain rates than others, so I put XX to mean 24fps input or a multiple thereof (the next gen discs will be encoded at 1080p24). Whether the players output this or not, at least on the HDMI port, isn't confirmed yet. Now, what a display does after it gets this framerate (be it 24fps, 48fps, etc) is going to be up to the display manufacturer. Some may show it at 48fps, some may convert to 60fps, while others (I hope) will go to 72fps.

I change my sig from time to time and the last change (1920x1080 displays which can't accept a 1080pXX input suck!) was just due to some manufacturers touting the 1080p resolution of their displays, but not accepting that resolution as an input. I'm surprised that only my sig came up as the only use of the XX designation. There was some nice back and forth in a thread on AVS regarding this subject that should have appeared as well (but I'm not looking for it!).
