Re: New DVD player while we wait for format war to end?

if i ever get a widescreen, i'd get a panasonic. the S77 beats players costing $800 or more for video quality. the only issue is the macroblocking.

still, i just ordered a sony DVPNC875VS 5 disc changer instead for several reasons
panasonic only does the less common DVD-A
it's a changer, and cheaper (payed $131 total)
it's supposed to be superb at reading scratched discs
and
it has a 108MHz X 12 bit video DAC compared with the more common 54MHz X 10 bit dacs in cheaper models. it answered more of my needs than the panasonic does. i use my players for CDs alot, so a changer is mandatory. i also liked the simpler looks of the sony compared to panasonic. i LOVE my panasonic SA-XR55 reciever though. it sounds awesome. it's too bad panny DVD players are styled differently.

my immediate need is a changer to replace my old onkyo which is starting to act up again and to be able to play CD-Rs which it won't. the sony changer does that and gets favorable reviews for sound and picture. the panny is probably more of a one disc purist unit while the sony is more flexible.
