Hi,
this is your call. Your first decision is how to divvy up the funds between audio and video. I would start with the tv. Pick a size, then a technology, and then the one that looks best. The 40" and 42" plasmas
are nice.

Stereo and HT have different designs. Stereo speakers will have weaknesses doing movies, and ht monitors have flat frequency response that won't do stereo very well.

You can also go stereo. That's what I wound up doing. But it is fun to fool around with surround for a while. Get a decent sub. Hsu makes a good sub for the $$.
