depends on who you ask

Flat panel doesn't have to mean "it hangs on a wall". Plasmas and flat panel LCDs are just at home on a stand as they are hanging on the wall. It depends on your particular situation and setup.

Every display technology has its pluses and minuses. If a certain technology is the bomb in a category that you feel is essential (ie; color accuracy, black level, resolution, multiple inputs, etc), you're likely to favor that technology.

The best thing to do is write down a list of what's important to you and would be ideal for your situation. Then investigate the different display technologies to see how they stack up against your list. Don't take it for granted when someone tells you that "display technology X is the best": do the comparisons for your own eyes.
