Digital out question????

TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Home Theater systems and more.

I'm new to the home theater setup and my question is this. If I'm using the digital output of my DVD player to connect to my receiver and letting the receiver do the decoding does it matter in a movie, or concert menu what you select on the audio option. Like 2.0, or 5.1. I wouldn't imagine it would since the output from the dvd is a raw signal..Am I correct.
