You should look into an Arcam AVR300.You can find them used for $1200-1500. Great solution for music and HT. Sounds better than any other AVR receiver I've heard and you'd have to go to high quality separates (and more $$$) to beat it.
This is a 1st choice for music lovers. The Arcam AVR350 is a bit better if you have high end speakers, but it's more expensive, plus you're not going to find one used since it's relatively new to the market.
Check out the Arcam DVD/CD players too.
