I went to Lowes and purchased a set of canister lights. They are about the size of coffee cans and either sit on the floor or you could probably raise them up higher. I used 15 watt bulbs to reduce the overall degree of lighting. Since the purchase cost me $14 for both, I figured it would be worth the try. I was pleasantly suprised. When placed slightly behind my 27" tv, it was just enough ambient lighting.

The whole point of ambient lighting to keep the switches between daytime and evening scenes from bothering your eyes. I also add to this that any directional light sources reflecting on the screen are annoying and wash out the picture - I imagine more so on rear and front projection setups.

Have fun!
