an Upscale question....

My Cambridge Azur 540D DVD/CD player has a sticker on top, a reminder that this unit is capable, if the TV is able to, to show a Progressive (P)scan image, but you must press the "P" button on the remote to engage this feature.
Does this mean that in the "P" mode it will upscale my old DVD`s?, If not what is it doing in P mode?

It`s feeding a SONY 720P HD LCD TV.
