If you aren't familiar with the jargon and needs for HDTV, I suggest you get up to speed at: http://www.e-town.com/. You will find that many sets are claimed to be HDTV but few actually have the native capabilities you need. Yes you will need a progressive scanning dvd, but I think most, if not all, can output 480p (progressive). They must also have component video outputs for true HDTV. To get a full 1100+ lines of horizontal resolution, the set needs 9" projection tubes. Those cost at least $10K. See the discussions at e-town and the reviews of specific rear projectors for more information. I have the Panasonic PT56WXF95, which has all the latest HDTV stuff but only has 7" tubes. It lists for $5499, but I got one for $3499 + about $380 shipping at an auction on ebay. I have since read that some dealers are discounting this set to about $3999 delivered locally.
