Re: DVD unreliability

Recently I bought my first DVD player and hit the local B'Buster for a few test videos. All had some freeze-frame problem and the movie "High Fidelity" stopped two thirds of the way through with no chance of recovery. I became worried as the more I read about DVD players the more I became convinced that these units are made cheaply at the low end. I hedged my bets and kept the DVD player receipt for a potential return. To test the player I bought a few DVDs and found that they played flawlessly all the way through. One foreign film I purchased, "Like Water for Chocolate", shows the versatility with DVD as I can play the film in foreign language with or without subtitles or I can play with dubbed English. The problems I experienced in my case were rental DVD related. I must admit I still think the entry DVDs are cheaply made with a short lifetime, 1-3 years....Haoleguy
