RE: Early review of Netflix's, "The Serpent." This film very (too?) realistically

Decades ago I read the book written about Charles Sobrhaj called Serpentine, which was great. All this time later, I only dimly recalled his actions.
I did enjoy this series. I also thought there was too much time shifting for no great reason. But I guess on the docudrama scale, I found this tilted a bit too heavily on the drama, i.e. fictionalized to tell a story.
The whole thing about the Dutch diplomat investigating against his supervisor's wishes, well, this is pretty much a cliche in many cop stories. Was it real? I have no idea, but it felt like fiction. Other highly suspenseful moments seemed a bit too cinematic. And all the dialogue was made up.
It is however an interesting story and quite well done with the actors and settings. I'm sure there is little to no video of those people in those times, so a true documentary is probably not possible. Docudrama is OK, but I did like the book and I see now that there is at least one other book that has come out as well.
