There were no pretenses about 300 being a documentary, and all war movies from Battle of the Bulge to Pearl Harbor take liberties and change the way it happened.

You're right that TrueHD is not supposed to have any effect on the sound, but it does. It's not night and day, but it is a minor issue that will lead me to choose PCM every time, if given a choice.
