But HD DVD does support lossless audio, and your chances of encountering a movie which has it are apparently pretty good! Per the Wikipedia article (below), TrueHD is in fact lossless, multichannel audio, and it's a mandatory codec for HD DVD, but optional on Blu-Ray. Whether your particular setup allows you to actually hear the full-quality soundtrack is another matter: As I've been doing a bit of online research, it's become pretty apparent that until very recently, there were few home audio products which could decode the actual TrueHD audio: Sony's TrueHD-capable receivers don't ship until later this month.
