The version of the 540D Werner owns will not upscale the source material (it will not output a 720p signal). Scaling must be done elsewhere in the chain...the likely candidate is the TV: it's native resolution is 720p. As always, read the manual or check the support section of the www site for the TV to get detailed info on what the set is capable of.
