Yes, you can play a cd or sacd with out the TV, you just can't see any track information, like what's playing, how much time left, how many tracks.
All the screen on the player tells you is ,Hello, open,close,loading, off.Its a solidly built machine,has all the outputs I need,and can fit anywhere.
