I have just purchased a Sony DVD-S7700, due to wide price range of component video cables outthere from $40 to $300, from Radio Shack, to Monster cable, Audio Quest etc, does anyone have experience with video cables to know that if price(quality) makes a difference???Thanks
After I posted my comments here, I used component cables from Radio Shack ($40 for 2 meters) for a couple of weeks, then I switched to Tributaries($60 for 2 meters, Delta) last weekend, I notiecd (at least in my mind), the colors are more vivid. So I am going to stay with Tributaries for a year or two before I do anymore experience. Thanks again, guys.
I watched my 7700 via component video connection through my Toshiba Cinema Series 36" TV and honestly had a difficult time discerning any difference between cables. Sometimes I thought maybe there was a difference, but when the dealer A-B'd and switched, my opinions were not consistent with the specific cable being run. This told me that either there was essentially no difference or my eyes just aren't sensitive enough to discern the difference. Either way, I opted for the Monster cables and have been extremely happy with them for the past 2 years.
Try these guys if you want excellent cables for a reasonable price. So far they are the only ones I've seen that sell belden 1694a component cables. Amazing cable. Think they offer money back offer as well.

Here's a short review from Soundstage. Note that component cables are three composite cables.I went with the Nordost and the picture I'm getting is excellent. No problems with the cables regarding noise, etc. I did not compare with other cables.
On a side note, moving my Shunyata Sidewinder power cord to the RPTV also changed the picture quality - adding more detail and better color rendition. How much? Enough to notice...sometimes...but not night/day. This is in conjunction with a Brickwall and VansEvers Cleanline Jr. surge/filters.

PS - Buy the best first and only be disappointed once.
I like your philosophy of "buy the best first and be disappointed only once"!!!
I would recommend you contact Galen Carol who is a very honest, no pressure dealer. He gives a fair price and if not satisfied, he'll take them back (ask about this); I returned a power cord once and no problems (wasn't even billed in advance). He had to order the Optix cables for me as I needed 5 meters. I think it's a bit over $200 for 2 meters. But Galen discounts, so it will be less than retail. There are also a couple people on these boards who discount more, but they don't accept returns. I like the option to return if I'm not completely satisfied...the difference is not that much more.-- Greg
