just showed up on Amazon Prime. I saw in a theater. My favorite of 2018.
Follow Ups:
Unusual, and unusually beautiful film, but most definitely not for everyone.
I don't regret seeing it at all. I know some people were about to puke over it, based on their reviews. I enjoyed floating with it - no relation to the final scene...
I would put it in the same category as Lavinia Currier's Passion in the Desert, with images so beautiful and so thick you need a chain saw to cut through them. Is it just the coincidence that both directors are women? If so, I would certainly add Claire Denis to this cohort, with her incredible Beau Travail.
It was way too gloomy for my wife, who could not deny its visual beauty, but it was simply the wrong kind of a mood for her.
Thank you for your recommendation, it was a very gratifying experience, with memories, that are bound to prove lasting.
Glad you enjoyed it. I used a neutral word interesting to describe it...scenery, setting, mood caught me up but I did not get any deeper connection. I will look up Passion in the Desert, I do not know it.
I noticed that word, so I had some concerns. :) Mainly in my wife's department, which does not appreciate gloomy stuff. Thank God she missed some of the final scenes. :)

Zama is free on amazon prime. I found it very interesting.
Two more of my favorites are not free but can be paid for. These are Burning from Korea an Shoplifters from Japan. Both are quite thought provoking or at least were for me.
Gosh, so good to see The Burning and Shoplifters mentioned. Those two were my two favourite movies from last year. I still can't get The Burning out of my mind. It's not everyone's cup of tea, as my wife didn't particularly care for it.
I watched Burning twice. There is some ambiguity that I won't go into. I really really enjoyed 2nd time through. There is so much subtlety in the performances. Brilliant IMO. I have not seen Shoplifters a 2nd time, but plan to do that soon. It really surprised me. These, along with Cold War, made up for lots of less interesting movie going.
