Just watched 'Vlad the Impaler' on Prime and was fascinated by its POV. It was a Turkish film explaining that Vlad was all but a devil hiding behind a Christian facade. Never mind the save Christendom Jazz, this Sultan-raised miscreant was a bad egg from birth. This might be the most realistic portrait of a king who would impale people for chuckles. Not recommending the film, mind you.
Follow Ups:
Considering impaling was perfected by the Ottomans - the skill demanded excellent knowledge of internal anatomy. Skilled impaler will avoid perforating all major organs, thus preventing the quick death. The goal was for the victim to suffer for days before dying slow and agonizing death.
"Vlad--- the inhaler!"
Thank you so much! One of the books I read in my youth contained a very detailed scene, that I still recall in my nightmares from time to time.
I always want to forget it... so I hardly needed yet another reminder! :)

A book by a Russian author Pikul.
Interesting. So many great Russian writers we in the West never heard of. Not long ago I discovered Leonid Andreyev ...he is as good as anyone.
