I went to the standard (non-3D) version, only to take note of all the shots that must be wild in 3D Now I'm debating if I should spend more $ and go see the 3-D version over Thanksgiving weekend.
Now that I have the story in mind, I can just sit back and enjoy the 3D
Follow Ups:
Beowulf should be seen in the 3-D version. They are saying it is worth seeing regardless, but that the 3-D version is extraordinary.
I'm torn; the rare times I have seen 3-D in the past . . . I don't like being photographed in those goofy glasses . . . I didn't care for it. I recall the picture was fuzzy/blurry.
But they say "hey, the sword comes directly out of the screen towards you!" Hey, I don't want to be stabbed in face, much less pay for that experience.
Has 3-D movie technology advanced so as to make it a more pleasurable experience?
Last summer I saw Meet the Robinsons. It would have been a completely forgettable kids movie, but I saw the 3-D version. The visuals were, at times, spectacular. The old-fashioned 3-D was represented by a preview of a 50s era Disney cartoon. Back in those days, there were flat planes, but Meet the Robinsons was continuous all the way up to your face to way into the screen. It was memorable.
I also saw the recent 3-D version of Nightmare Before Christmas. In this case, probably because the movie was not originally 3-D, the effects were much more subtle and less memorable.
I doubt I will see Beowulf in any case. But if I get dragged to it, it will be the 3-D version.
Swedish-produced I think. Low key, focus on the characters and story. No grandiose effects. The only negative is that it had that guy who was in "300", and once again his thick Scots accent sounds as out of place as Mississippi drawl.

Was that the one filmed in Iceland? If so, yes I liked it too.

Real mythic Heros don't need to shout...
...the 3-D effects were the only reason to go see the movie.
But then after about 45 minutes the novelty wears off and you have to sit through the rest of the movie.
but said go to the 3D version
