One of the my favorite films lf all time for the acting.
I don't think Montgomery Clift is anything spectacular in the film although he is solid. Ralph Richardson is very good. His menacing/loving father role is very well done.
Unquestionably, the film is owned by Olivia de Havilland. Watch some of the close ups of her face in this movie. There are moments where you can see three or four emotions cross her face one right after the other. From excitement to uncertanty to sadness to pain to anger. Her performance is a masterpiece of acting. One of the most well deserved academy awards ever given.

What I really miss nowadays is subtilty. I'd love to see a blu ray release of this. I was nice to watch her face's expressions. I really liked how she gave him the ruby buttons and when he accepted them she new he was lying. This was never explained. I saw a shadow of this acting ability, of all places, in Super 8's Elle Fanning.
We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along
