I haven't watched a single episode of BE until this week when I got the Blu-ray set. It was an impressive production. The sets, props and outfits are vintage 1920s and the cinematography is total eye candy. Every frame looks amazing. Not surprising with Scorsese as an executive producer and director of the first episode and maybe others. Some of the acting I can live without and the writing is not as strong as other shows like Mad Men, but for me the main draw is Buscemi as Nucky Thompson. He's a more evolved gangster, never getting his hands dirty or losing his temper in violence. I also really like Kelly Macdonald, who developed over the season into Nucky's girlfriend. The tie-ins into New York and Chicago gangster lore are also interesting. But the production values kept me glued to my kuro plasma, where every frame looked like a work of art. The blu-ray set is going for a good price.

Check out Shotgun Stories & Take Shelter by the extremely talented Jeff Nichols, featuring Michael Shannon (Agent Nelson Van Alden), who gives an astounding performance in Take Shelter.
