Viggo, Kirsten, and Oscar couldn't bail water fast enough to keep this 50's drama afloat. Being beautifully filmed in Greece still did not elevate this film beyond the typical three-way love story and revenge.
Viggo and Kirsten (the much younger wife) were on the lam from New York because of his shady investments business demise. Many people lost their money and his first response was to grab what he could and go hide on a grand tour. In Greece Oscar appears in the form of a tour guide who fleeces tourists with cheap tricks. He meets them and he becomes infatuated with Dunst and Viggo asks him for help. The three are now all bound together by a crime and must try to make it out of Greece. Complications occur, Dunst falls by the wayside and Viggo and Oscar become intertwined because of distrust and revenge.
I believe direction had more to do with the lackluster performances of the actors. The lead three pretty much seemed like their usual screen selves shuffling through the script.
I can see why this didn't hit wide release and hesitate to jump up and down with a recc.
Follow Ups:
I watched this one a few months ago and had to bail after about an hour. It was painful to watch and life is just too short to be wasted on drek like this. Too bad, the casting is good, but the performances and script just plain suck...

in almost every scene! As a non-smoker that was a total turn off as silly as it sounds.
I just got the forbidden film, "The Vanished Empire"... I will watch it and then post on it, you may be able to respond before the NKVD thugs kick down my door.
