Jay has come to the Wild West from Scotland in search of his love: Rose. At the beginning of his journey he reluctantly hooks up with Fassbinder who is heading West himself. Jay offers him nearly all his money to show him the way and to keep him alive...so off they go on an adventure that crosses paths with desperadoes and bounty hunters all looking for his precious Rose.
Great script that nearly drained the entire contents of the irony bucket. Fassbinder and Smitt-McPhee were perfect counterpoints to each other's character. Jay's incredible naivete was played nicely in the shadow of Fassbinder's worldly thug.
The final gun fight doles out the irony without compassion.
Again, this is a well-written, interesting, and (for once) a truly different kind of western. Beautifully filmed in Colorado, Australia, it has some truly gorgeous vistas.
Found it in Redbox so it may be on cable.

Had an ole tore up cowboy and his squaw over tonight and was searching Pay Per View for something, ANYTHING, they might like. 'twas, surprisingly, a hit.

Good movie, but a little one-note.
