A dark and brutal film by Krzysztof Kieslowski, examining the issue of capital punishment. Not an easy viewing, and definitely not something for a family evening, begging the question: could the subject be discussed without resorting to that much of what seems like gratuitous violence? Several times along the way you are ready to scream "OK, OK, I get it! Move on!", but the director is relentless. My wife left the room after about 30 minutes, dropping some choice words in process.
Nonetheless, a thought provoking film.
Follow Ups:
Sounds similar to the "Faces of Death" films.

We saw it years ago, so the memory kept coming back, and now I am to large degree over the violence part, and am feeling more sympathy for the director's position.
It is a difficult situation, in which some of us find ourselves sometimes. It is hard to step over your immediate human response and begin to analyze the events from logical and moral perspectives.
