Totally different kind - a French criminal action flick, which is quick paced, dense, and overall a cut above the average for that genre.
Great for an evening with boys, or just a guilty pleasure while wife sleeps. :)
Follow Ups:
You will like the movie 'Diva', a French crime thriller which I saw in 1981 and still cannot forget the singing of Ms Hernandez an American Soprano.

...I saw it on the big screen and loved it.
The art direction and cinematography are magnificent.
I saw it in a theatre near Carnegie Hall. Sound was so good and I loved the music. I saw it twice.
Cheers

Might want to revisit, as we both bel canto.
Orsen Wells, Edward G. Robinson and Loretta Young. Directed by Wells. 1946; excellent!

Eddie got an Oscar nod for it. It really was good and Welles' dinner table diatribe was excellent. (No Nazi dere!)
.
I like French film because it is so outside my cultural heritage. This one, though, had no sympathetic characters and a time-worn plot. The fact that is was 1:21 long says something about the story.
Thank you for the recommendation! :)
I set my sight differently when watching that kind of movies, and for that kind it was not bad at all, better than probably 98% of Netflix violence crap.
I recall the first season of Witnesses, but not my reaction to it. Will take a look at it.
to get past the leads moley face. The French seem to be in love with ugly. Notice the redhead from the French police drama. She has all her makeup scaped off in this one and looks decent. But, who's judging?
...and so far I think it is plain and utter silly as hell nonsense. But I like watching the main heroine - I would never call her ugly, she is a very pretty woman, with style. She reminds me of young Fanny Ardant.
The redhead Audrey Fleurot is a famous actress, she was a dynamite in The Spiral, and I would consider her to be French answer to our own Christina Hendricks. :)
Separated at birth.
2 beautiful women, who look REAL, not waifs, not enhanced, and aging gracefully.
Need more like these 2.
British show with 5 or 6 episodes about an aging, Alzheimer's afflicted, crime boss and his sons' succession.
tentatively put it on my list, will look at The Fear too.
The film that cast Channing Tatum as an ancient Roman. I steered clear of that.
No, I meant that one:
The Eagle
2004-2006 NR 3 seasons
Overview Seasons Details
Nicknamed "The Eagle" for his unerring intuition, Detective Hallgrim Hallgrimsson exudes self-assurance. Beneath the façade, however, lies a tormented personality. He's been selected to lead a team of Danish investigators gathered to stem the explosion of European cross-border organized crime.
I don't know that one, but I like Nordic Noir. I don't see it on Netflix though.
I can't recall any titles at the moment, but there have been some interesting crime series there - as you put it Nordic Noir. Just like the British or French, they have their flavor.
